Celine is Confirmed

Well, Celine is officially confirmed.  Whew!  Sunday September 16, 2012 Celine along with Augustas "Gus" Buss, and Cody Heitmann were confirmed at Lake City Lutheran Church in Lake City, SD.  The last class confirmed there is believed to be in the 60's.  The three families filled the church with family members and friends.  It was a beautiful day.  Afterwards we came back to the house to share a meal and visit.  Celine was fortunate to have her sponsors Auntie Kristi and Uncle Justin, Grandparents Kathy, Vince and Vickie, and GREAT GRANDMA Henrichsen!  Along with family friends who have been there since Celine was born and baptized, the Andersons and Brewsters.  Thanks to all of them for sharing her special day with her.  We are very blessed and proud parents.  God Bless you all.

I am pleased to be a part of the Oceti Sakowin Project this summer.  I am part of a group of educators working on writing Social Studies curriculum for grades K-12 as a part of the SD Office of Indian Education.   We are writing the history through the Native American perspective.  This project was started 4 years ago.  This week we are in D.C. working at the Smithsonian and using their valuable resources to help complete our project.  Today we actually traveled to the Cultural Resource Center where they house thousands of items representing tribes from all around the country.  It was fascinating to say the least.  Here are a few photos of what I saw and learned about today.

She's here!

Congratulations!  It's a Girl!  Brenda and Gene welcomed a Baby Girl Monday February 27th around 5:30 pm California time.  Both momma and baby are doing well.  She weighed in at 5lbs 13 ounces and is 17 1/2 inches long.  She is healthy, has a beautiful color, and a lot of dark hair. All we need is a name for this little angel.  Cogratulations to Brenda and Gene!  WE can't wait to meet her.  

A North Dakota Kind of Day

Celine and I traveled up to Wahpeton, ND to watch the Heath girls skate in competition.  They have been faithfully taking skating lessons and belong to the Watertown Skate Club for the past 3 years. They practice twice a week and travel the tri-state to skate in competitions.  It was exciting to see how graceful and atheletic both girls were on skates.  They both placed first in a variety of performances. Congratulations girls!  

We then traveled up to Fargo to have a girls day.  We had our fingers and toes prettied up, went out to eat, shopped, and took in a movie.  It was a fun filled day.

Rest In Peace Grandma Wilde

Our Sweet Grandma Wilde passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 3rd of a stroke. We celebrated her 86 years of life at her prayer service and funeral held February 7th and 8th respectfully. She was remembered fondly by many and we all got a much needed chuckle out of a remark made by a friend of hers. He said, "I have only one word to describe Roberta....WOW!" He also remarked how she was one of the "wee people". :) Here are a few of my favorite things about Grandma Wilde; Patience, she had a lot of it. She was an artist. When I was younger she had her own ceramic shop in their basement. I loved painting down there. She painted numerous paintings. I have the painting of a one room school house she gave me years ago. Her hands were small but they were always busy. She was a prayerful lady who was deeply devoted to her family and church. She made delicious salsa with celery, the best homemade chex mix and peanut brittle at Christmas time. I think she invented frozen yogurt and had to be one of the first to make "walking" cool. She as an avid golfer with 3 holes in one to her name! She loved to fish and when we went camping we had the most fantastic fish frys. She holds a very special place in my heart and I am so grateful that Celine and Monte had her as a part of their lives. I love you Grandma. I will remember all the good times we had. Obituary for Roberta Wilde

SIOUX CITY -- Roberta Adella Wilde, 86, of Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Cox will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Roberta was born on Aug. 18,1925, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred Yapp. She attended school in Cushing, Iowa, and Sioux City.
On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Martin Wilde in South Sioux City. The couple lived most of their married life in Sioux City. Roberta worked for Wincharger Corp. and was the assistant post master in Cushing. She and Martin wintered for 12 years in Texas. Martin died in July 1997 in Sioux City
She was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and was very active with the church. She especially enjoyed going to Bible study. Roberta was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Cushing and she participated in CROP walk and making candy apples for the Humane Society. She was an avid golfer and played in the league at Floyd Golf Course. She made her first hole-in-one at the age of 70 and had two more after that. Roberta loved to read, did ceramics and enjoyed traveling.
Roberta is survived by her children, Rhonda and Frank Ostrihonsky, Michael and Sandra Wilde, Lon and Sharon Wilde, Kathy and Don Kirchner, all of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her companion, Gordon Mickelson; two brothers; and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-grandson, Chance Ostrihonsky; and two sisters.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
